I was surfing thru’ my RSS feeds when I came across this post by Darren Rowe at ProBlogger. Pretty interesting and when I was going thru’ the list I found that I typically suffer from some of the situations mentioned.
The actual text as far as point 1 is concerned is
bloggers block – one of the first signs to me that I might need a day (or ten) off from blogging is when I run out of things to write about. You know the feeling – you stare blankly at the screen unable to string a sentence together for hour on end. If you’ve got nothing to say – it’s probably best to say nothing.
I actually don’t run out of things to write about, but feel that I shouldn’t write about some things. So, at times I suffer from the problem that is mentioned in line 2 and that is I try making up something when I actually don’t want to do it. And ultimately I shove it into the bin, but I am just unable to stop doing this.
And my answers to the questions would be:
1. Probably.
2. I don’t think so. At least I have never felt this way. I feel a lot of things I do are just not bloggable.
3. No.
4. Yes
5. Yes. I have suffered from headaches when I have been awake trying to post something, and my brain has already gone to sleep.
6. No
7. Yes.
8. Yes.
And these are for the questions which Scoble added:
9. No. (I have very rarely done that. Maybe less than 5 posts in nearly 300 posts.)
10. No.
11. No.
12. No.
13. No.
14. No.
15. No.
16. Yes.
A break from doing anything would do a person a world of good. There is a thin line between obsession and passion. Earlier I felt compelled to write, but now-a-days I write if I want to. This is a change that I have made and so far it has worked for me.
There aren’t many people who visit my blog everyday and this makes my job simpler. For some reason I have felt that I should write something when many people have visited my blog. The stats for my blog show this:
- If I post something (By something, I mean that the readership isn’t varying depending on topics): The readership varies between 120-160. Feed Readers used varies from 13 to 28. There have been occasional spurts when readership levels have dramatically increased, but that has happened only on four occasions. Twice for movie reviews and on two times the post was on sports. There has been two occasions when I have just written something because the readership on the previous day has around that 150 mark.
- If I don’t post: The readership varies between 70-120. Feed Readers used varies from 1-12. (Maybe it shows 1 by default. I haven’t bothered to check that.)
- Irrespective of posting the readership decreases on Saturday’s and Sunday’s which shows that people access the site from their offices mostly. The readership on weekends typically varies from as low as 36 to as high as 150, but generally hovers around the 60 mark. While on weekdays, it is around the 100 mark consistently.
Anyway, so far I have not felt the temptation to write about what people want to read and as long as I feel like this things should just be fine.
Maybe, it is better to remain silent if you don’t have anything to say, works even for the virtual world unlike the showbiz where any kind of publicity (good or bad) is good.
Oh! And there is no connection between me and this picture except for both of us being tired. I just liked it.
